Why I Blog
I killed my last blog because I convinced myself nobody cared what I thought. Then someone told me they missed my writing and I realized — fuck, I missed my writing too.
I killed my last blog because I convinced myself nobody cared what I thought. I was scared to share my own thoughts. Scared of people thinking I am uninteresting. So I stopped publishing to my blogger blog a very long time ago.
Recently someone commented that they enjoyed my writing. I decided maybe I should get back into it, but this time I didn’t want it to be on blogger. I decided I would go all InfraSiren and build my own.
Now there was quite a bit about setting that up that was straightforward. Then it came to the look and here I was actually quite taken aback by how limited my templates were for the platform I chose to self host. I tried and tried to make my own but I don’t have the time and I got stuck.
I almost decided right then and there that you know what this is not worth it, because if it cannot feel like me then what’s the point right?
My ADHD Brain back in action, getting overwhelmed and just quitting on me. I then decided I will do what the person giving the compliment said. “You write well and you should continue doing it.”
I went back and started writing, then I realized my blog is going to be a mess. Because I have so much I need to write about so many opinions, thoughts and stories that I have to share. I then realized that I needed to make it a bit more organized. I started researching and found an open source app that fit my bill because I work with systems all day and don’t want to struggle with posting to a platform that needs my constant intervention.

So here I am back again. Now with a little more structure. A unique url, a little more feeling like me and who I am or want to be.
Here I will post under 5 pillars of my existence.
- Chaos Choir — This is where most of my posts will live. These are just kind of the default for pieces I write. About my transition, about me as a human, my journey in this life.
- Die Ruimte Tussen/The space between — These will be either Afrikaans/English. Here I offer my perspective on my life truth, on both ends of the gender spectrum.
- #TransinAfrikaans — This was supposed to be a book, but frankly, I never see me publishing it so I will write the chapters here. I want to give my story life from an Afrikaans context. It will also be a collaborative effort with other individuals who are Afrikaans people, so we get a diverse view from others as well.
- Mental Mayhem — Here I will post in both Afrikaans and English and talk about my mental health journey and what I learned and how these interact with each other and news I found or youtube links for anything mental health related.
- HotMess Dispatches — This is for anything that does not fit the mould of the others, be it interesting Youtube videos, fashion, beauty, Queer feel good stories or just something that does not fit anywhere.
I will keep my socials updated with the blog posts updates.
So I hope you enjoy my writing. Feel free to join so you can comment and share your thoughts. There’s also a form for what you think I should write about.
